OK. After a long, prayerful search for a new church name, we’ve settled on “Hope Church.” So, Billy and Wallace, you are the closest. However, we had to seriously re-think our approach after reading Alan’s, Jason’s (2nd), Danny’s and Charlie’s.

Over the last six months, we have heard so many people asking, “Is there any hope?” This may be a cry from a financial crisis, a personal crisis, a relational crisis or a professional crisis. Some people are wondering aloud if there is hope in the midst of their present circumstances, or just in the afterlife. We know that true hope can be found only in Jesus Christ and experienced fully in close, vital relationships with others.

....viewed from every angle I can think of, it just seems perfect! The card is very inviting and resonates of peace. Regardless of what one is searching for, there is Hope....awesome! I like it!

I think it is the perfect name. Love the business card.

I preached on hope just today. A good word, but not an easy word.

15 years ago I was asked to give a laymans definition of the difference between faith and hope; not a theological definition, just practial. I'm still formulating my response.

I'm finally getting around to reading Moltmann's Theology of Hope. Some good stuff so far. In his discussion of faith and hope he quotes Calvin: "Hope is nothing else than the expectation of those things which faith has believed to have been truly promised by God. Thus, faith believes God to be true, hope awaits the time when this truth shall be manifested; faith believes that he is our Father, hope anticipates that he will ever show himself to be a Father toward us; faith believes that eternal life has been given to us, hope anticipates that it will sometime be revealed; faith is the foundation upon which hope rests, hope nourishes and sustains faith."
